Self-Worth - Part 2

Military Wives

This blog picks up on and continues on the theme of Self-Esteem. The lady I introduced you to in Blog #1 went on to say:

…Or could my number be 14? Perhaps, that’s my number!

It’s the size pants I now have to buy because my tummy got fluffier and fluffier as I stress-ate all those snacks after being diagnosed with breast cancer, experiencing divorce, and moving from state to state,

Or is it 390? Maybe that’s my number!

The size implant I chose when the surgeon reconstructed my breasts after a knife had cleared them entirely from my body.

I remember squeezing each weird gelatin blob in my plastic surgeon’s office before settling on one that quite honestly looked much like all the others. “I dunno, I said. This one?” The nurse looked over my body, jotted down some numbers, and left the room.

It was bizarre to be, sitting in an open gown, with my marshmallow tummy and stitched up breasts exposed. Even more bizarre was sitting next to a wall covered with plastic surgery pamphlets. Each featured a woman who was smiling in a linen shirt and, I assume, was very happy because she had some sort of surgical procedure! I picked up a few brochures and began to thumb through them: brow lifts, arm lifts, tummy tucks, liposuction, Botox, Mommy Make Overs, eyelid lifts…

Did you know that your face has “parentheses” on it? Apparently, they aren’t desirable. I always thought they were smile lines, but according to these brochures, you can fill them in with medical jelly and make them go away. And then it’s like you never smiled at all! Which is…good, I guess? I really don’t know!

Do you ever feel like you’re simply “not enough?” I invite you to join me on this important journey @ www.dorothyguybonvillain.com
